Tripsmooth Rides is a ride-hailing service operated in Nigeria by TRIPSMOOTHERS TRAVEL SERVICES LTD (“Tripsmooth”, “we”, “us”). This policy explains what personal data our rider and driver apps collect, why, and the choices you have. We comply with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA).
| Data | Who | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Phone number and email address | Riders & drivers | Account identity and sign-in via a one-time verification code delivered to your email (or, where offered, WhatsApp/SMS) |
| Name and profile photo (photo optional for riders) | Riders & drivers | Displaying who you are riding with / driving for |
| In-trip chat messages | Both | Letting you and your driver/rider coordinate during a trip; stored with the trip and reviewable by our safety team when an incident is investigated |
| Push notification device token | Both | Delivering ride offers, trip updates and chat messages to your device |
| Precise location | Riders: during booking and active trips. Drivers: while online and during trips | Matching nearby drivers, live trip tracking, navigation, and safety monitoring (route deviation, SOS response) |
| Trip details (pickup, destination, route, fare, timestamps) | Both | Providing the service, receipts, dispute resolution, safety investigations |
| Driver documents and photos (licence, vehicle papers, driver photo, vehicle photos) | Drivers | Identity and vehicle verification before approval; the driver photo, vehicle photo and plate are shown to matched riders |
| Safety events (SOS alerts, incident records) | Both | Real-time emergency response by our Security Control Centre and legally required record-keeping |
| Device and app diagnostics | Both | Reliability, crash fixing, fraud prevention |
We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your location outside of providing and safeguarding trips. We do not read your contacts, your photo gallery, or your personal SMS/WhatsApp messages — the only messages we process are the ones you send inside the app's in-trip chat (see section 2).
Trips are monitored by our safety systems and, when risk indicators occur (for example an SOS activation, significant route deviation, or prolonged unexpected stop), by trained human operators in our Security Control Centre. Operators may view trip location, contact you or your driver/rider, and involve emergency services. Incident records, including operator actions, are retained as evidence.
Data is shared only with: (a) your matched driver/rider (name, first-line location, vehicle details as needed for the trip); (b) service providers strictly to deliver the service — verification-code and email delivery (SendGrid; Termii or WhatsApp Business where offered), push notifications (Google Firebase Cloud Messaging), cloud hosting, private document storage and database providers (Google Cloud, Neon), map/routing services (OpenStreetMap); (c) law-enforcement or emergency services where required by law or where safety demands it. All providers are bound to confidentiality.
Account data is kept while your account is active. Trip and payment records are retained for up to six (6) years for legal, tax, and dispute purposes. Safety incident records are retained for as long as needed for investigations and legal compliance. Location breadcrumbs beyond these needs are deleted or anonymised.
Under the NDPA you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data, and may object to certain processing. Account deletion: email privacy@tripsmoothride.com from your registered contact or call +234 706 151 0179; we will delete your account and personal data within 30 days, except records we must keep by law (e.g. completed trip and payment records).
Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS). Access to personal data is role-restricted and logged. One-time passwords are stored only in hashed form.
The service is for users aged 18 and above.
We will post updates to this policy at this address and, for material changes, notify you in-app.
